27 December 2014. “Forgiveness and Seasons” – JLD. Although biblical seasons renew in the fall, we proudly closed our 2014 calendar year by talking forgiveness and spiritual seasonality. So right now, we ask you to quickly comment on your own spiritual journey towards the (Jewish) Messiah, and tell us your story. Especially in these final days, Messiah Echad wants you to share the message, join our mailing lists and financially support our ministry. And in our Shabbat audio recording, Andronicus delivered Vayigash (“And he drew near”, Genesis 44:18-47:27), which was about reaching forth to the future, and Andro prophetically cross referenced Isaiah 43:18-19, Isaiah 43:24-25 and Philippians 3:13-4. Then finally, our Senior Pastor (Rabbi), Jonathan Dade, spoke on how we should embrace each other’s individual seasons of life. After all, we are many passengers, on this one train, to everlasting life!
20 December 2014. “Interpreting and Chanukah” – JLD. In honoring Chanukah (Feast of Dedication, Festival of Lights), Messiah Echad made front page news (Williamson County Sun, 21 Dec 2014)! So join us nightly at 05:30pm, as we continue kindling lights through Tuesday 23 December. Then as for our Chanukah Shabbat, Alberta summarized Miketz (From The End), Genesis 41:1 – 44:17, while Rabbi Jonathan’s explored various winter holidays. We learned that Chanukah is a festival Jesus Christ observed (John 10:22-23) and it connects us with His light (Exodus 25:31-40, Exodus 27:20-21). Tree (Thor) worship on the other hand, is discouraged (Jeremiah 10:2-4), as is all idolatry (Deuteronomy 12:30-31) and also the appearance of such (I Thessalonians 5:22). Granted, the New Testament focuses on four commandments we should mind… please leverage the audio recording and slides, to re-dedicate yourself, this holiday season. Chanukah Semeach!
13 December 2014. “Many Colors and Lights” – JLD. Rebbetzin Melinda spoke to the children on Vayeshev “And he settled” from Genesis 37:1 – 40:23. Here, Joseph’s brothers were green with envy, then black with hatred, over Joseph’s coat. So the brothers faked Joseph’s death with red goat’s blood, causing their father to be blue with sadness. Then the brothers sold Joseph into slavery, where Joseph was later imprisoned, with Pharaoh’s Chief Baker and Butler. In the main message, Rabbi Jonathan covered Chanukah; a festival not specifically commanded but one Yeshua did observe. And the Feast of Dedication or Festival of Lights, is about God being light (I John 1:5), Messiah being light (John 8:12) and our being lights (Mathew 5:14-16). So the audio recording is online and we invite you to join us Tuesday for the Georgetown Chanukah Lighting, then again on Saturday, with a dish and your menorah or chanukiah, for Chanukah Shabbat.
06 December 2014. “Vayishlach and Huppahs” – JLD. In this last month of 2014, Rabbi Jonathan covered “And He Sent”, from Genesis 32:4 – 36:43. This was where Jacob left his country with riches, Jacob literally wrestled with God and Jacob’s name was changed to Israel, which accompanied a blessing. Sadly, this section also included the Dinah Incident where we are encouraged to ask; over what actions in life does God sanction a spiritual covering or huppah? And in that spirit of huppahs, we renewed the wedding vows for Ray and Toni Scalia, while confirming their commitment to Messiah Echad. Mazel Tov! The slides are posted and the audio recording is online. See you next week with Service Team Chet on Duty and everyone gearing up for Chanukah, to include the Georgetown Chanukah Lighting!
29 November 2014. “Purpose, Plan, Promises” – JLD. For our Anniversary Shabbat, Micah and Abby Mahoney, from Congregation Zion’s Sake in Newport News VA, prophetically led our praise and worship. It was such an amazing time; hearing music from their Gathering Album and other messianic songs we love! Then after the worship, Andronicus summarized Vayetze “And He Went Out” from Genesis 28:10 – 32:3. This section was about the purpose, plan and promise that God has ordained for us. Beautiful. And after the parsha, Rabbi Jonathan spoke on how far we have come this past year, thanks to our (heavenly) machashavot or strategic plan. We also ordained Meicha Herdeman, as our Minister of Intercession. The recording is online and you can find more about our ministry, on the About Us Page. Enjoy your week and make sure to bring desserts for The Scalia Wedding Renewal on 06 December.
22 November 2014. “Birthright and Myself” – JLD. Although heavy thunderstorms could be heard throughout the service, our sanctuary provided a safe place to rest on the Shabbat and the word delivered, was much louder than the rain. Chris began with Toledot “Generations”, from Genesis 25:19 – 28:9, which was about all children being blessings, the first born being extra special and how important it is, to protect our spirituality. Then in the main message, Rabbi Jonathan covered minding our own business (Mathew 20:1-15), yet caring for others (Deuteronomy 22:1-4)… there are times for each, so we explored how Jonah dealt with each situation; caring or not, depending. The audio recording is online and on top of services… we had an awesome Date Night afterwards, seeing Shrek The Musical. See you next week, for our Anniversary Shabbat, and Micah Mahoney live in concert.
15 November 2014. “Sarah and Life Events” – JLD. Pastor David covered parsha Chayei Sarah “Life Of Sarah”, from Genesis 23:1 – 25:1. Granted, this section was more about the final days of Sarah, Rebekah did enter the torah and she was truly a woman after God’s own heart. Then our sermon on Biblical Life Events, was presented by Pastor Jonathan. We explored how the living body has many members (I Corinthians 12:2), but all believers in Messiah should approach Birth (Genesis 17:10, Exodus 13:2), Adulthood (See our Bat Mitsvah Video; http://youtu.be/H3cOqub3mXI, Proverbs 2:1-5, Luke 2:41-47), Marriage (Mark 10:9, Mathew 19:6) and Death (Deuteronomy 18:9-12, I Thessalonians 4:14-17), in a unified, biblical manner. The audio recording is online. See you next week (22 November) for Shrek The Musical. Then the following week (29 November) is our Anniversary Shabbat, Monthly Oneg (Service Team Chet on Duty) and Micah Mahoney Concert!
08 November 2014. “Father Abraham and Change” – JLD. Robin, did an amazing job presenting Vayeira or And He Appeared, from Genesis 18:1-22:24. After singing about Father Abraham and seeing the importance of hospitality, we looked at the prophecy Abraham was given, to have children in his old age. Then in the main message, Rabbi Jonathan discussed the song “Same Love” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. We explored the misconceptions of how commandments might be rendered neutral or progressive, how we cannot change our thinking, we cannot alter our physical abilities and we should not use the resources around us… all of which are incorrect. The cross-referenced verses were Exodus 31:14, Mark 5:9-13, Luke 8:43-44 and I Samuel 17:49-51; the recording link is online. See you next Shabbat, join us for the Shrek the Musical (22 Nov) and Invite your friends to our Anniversary Shabbat (29 Nov), with Micah Mahoney in Concert!
01 November 2014. “Leaving and Shofars” – JLD. Rabbi Jonathan summarized Lech-Lecha or Go For You. From this section in Genesis 12:1 – 17:27, we saw how the time to leave is not when lying seems preferred, nor when wicked people prevail, nor even when gross inhumanities are committed. It is time to lech-lecha or go for ourselves, when Yahweh (God) speaks it into being. And with our congregational leader navigating changes in his secular employment (lay-offs), we included part of our prayer time in the recording, while we wait for God to speak into being, His next step. Then our guest, Minister Novak from Bible Way House of Prayer, presented on the shofar. We explored the history, purpose, design, use and maintenance… his slides have been uploaded and the recording was amazing. See you next Shabbat, join us for the Shrek the Musical (22 Nov) and Invite your friends to our Anniversary Shabbat (29 Nov), with Micah Mahoney in Concert!
25 October 2014. “Bat Mitzvah and Covenants” – JLD. Jonathan covered Noah or Rest, Genesis 6:9 – 11:32, and was assisted by our first Bat Mitzvah, Jaiden. We focused on Yahweh (God) preparing Noah to build an arc (Gen 6:13-14), a new covenant being established (Gen 6:18-19), Noah needing seven of the clean animals (Gen 7:2), the earth flooding (Gen 7:11-12), the rainbow being our covenant (Gen 9:11-13) and Cain’s lineage being cursed (Gen 9:22-23). Pastor covered the seven administrations or covenants; Paradise, Patriarchal, Torah, Messiah, Grace, Appearing and Return. We saw how signs, seals and sacrifices accompany each covenant… and everlasting means forever! It was a great service and congratulations again to Jaiden, who did an excellent job reading the torah, telling us what it means to her and reciting the ancient blessings. The audio recording is online; see you all next week!
18 October 2014. “Bereshit and Fruit” – JLD. Rabbi Jonathan began the new torah cycle with Bereshit or In The Beginning, from Genesis 1:1 – 6:8. We studied water surrounding our universe (Genesis 1:6-7), light being created before the sun (Genesis 1:14-16), life starting at breath (Genesis 2:7), the painful childbirth curse (Genesis 3:15-17), sin passing through families (Genesis 4:23) and being weary of attractive evil doers (Genesis 6:2). Then in the main message, Andronicus spoke on how things are made known by their fruit (love). The cornerstone verses were from Mathew 7:15-20… then we cross-referenced II Timothy 2:15-20, I Corinthians 11:27-32, I Corinthians 12:3, I Corinthians 8:1, I Corinthians 13:1-13, Revelations 2:1-10, Romans 12:2, John 2:5, John 3:16, Mathew 17:4-5, John 14:15, Mathew 22:36-40, and John 15:1-5. The audio recording is online and see you all next week for monthly oneg, with Service Team Aleph on Schedule.
11 October 2014. “Survival and Sukkot” – JLD. On Thursday, Rabbi Jonathan covered eschatology or the end times (II Timothy 3:1-14) and mentioned how those red, lunar eclipses will not signal the final days, without an accompanying solar eclipse (Joel 2:31). And since no one knows the final days (Mathew 24:36), we should aim to be prepared but not expectantly consumed (Jeremiah 10:2). So to get us started, we had our first survival training on first aid and health, then looked at the purpose of Sukkot;. On Friday, Pastor David continued our survival training by talking gear, after which we explored witnessing in light of current events like Halloween;. Our final Sukkot teaching on Saturday, was about the four species of Leviticus 23:40;. Enjoy your week, remember the Eighth Day (Shemini Atzeret) and celebrate Messiah Echad completing our first torah cycle (Simchat Torah)!
04 October 2014. “Blessings and Atonement” – JLD. On the Friday before Yom Kippur, we acknowledged our sins and prepared to be made clean, by reading Psalms 51:2-5. Then some entered a mikvah while remembering Isaiah 1:16-18; others accepted the baptism found in Mathew 3:15-17. Both were powerful experiences and we pray in the spring, more members might be led to self-mikvah. During Shabbat Service, Braunwyn assisted Rabbi Jonathan in summarizing “And This The Blessing”, from Deuteronomy 33:1 – 34:12, which was about Moses blessing the tribes and Joshua, before passing. This also marked the end of the torah, which means we roll back to Genesis. Finally, Rabbi Jonathan covered Yom Kippur from Leviticus 23:26-32, where we talked about Atonement (I Corinthians), Affliction and Rest. The audio recording is online and if you have not registered for The Feast of Tabernacles or Sukkot, make sure to do so ASAP, as space (and the fruit infusers) is limited.
27 September 2014. “His Name and Trumpets” – JLD. Pastor David (officially ordained today) covered Haazinu or Give Ear, from Deuteronomy 32:1 – 32:52. Right before Moses passed, Israel was encouraged to hear from Yahweh (God) and respond to His true name. We cross referenced Mathew 11:15, II Timothy 4:3 and Jeremiah 23:24, to better understand this section. Then Rabbi Jonathan reviewed the Tashlich Service (Micah 7:19) and continued with Rosh Hashanah (Leviticus 23:23-25). We covered the mikvah (baptism), as alluded to in Psalms 51:2-4, and we discussed wearing white during the High Holy Days, as symbolized in Isaiah 1:16-18; pointing to being atoned. And before we appear before Yahweh on Yom Kippur, pleased consider attending the Fall Mikvah (Baptism), on 03 October, which is open to all… except those who just want to splash in the water. Our audio recording is online. La Shana Tova!
20 September 2014. “Witnessing and Forgiveness” – JLD. With a double torah portion, Rabbi Jonathan spoke on Nitzavim “You Are Standing” from Deuteronomy 29:9 – 30:20 and Vayelech “And He Went” from Deuteronomy 31:1 – 31:30. Oh how vital it is to obey the commandments, chose life by following Him and stand for Yahweh (God), while brining others to His laws! Then Alfredo taught on Forgiveness, which we do with Yahweh to lighten our loads, and Reconciliation, which is better, but requires participation from the offender. We cross-referenced Proverbs 28:13, Matthew 6:14-15, Mathew 7:16, Matthew 18:21-35, Mark 11:25, Luke 17:3, Romans 12:17-21 and 2 Corinthians 5:11-21. The audio recording is posted, and Tashlich on 24 Sept at 06pm, kicks off the High Holy Days (email us for info and to rsvp), followed by monthly oneg on Shabbat Shavuh, 27 Sept 2014, with Service Team Aleph helping.
13 September 2014. “First Fruits and Change” – JLD. Ki Tavo or When You Enter In, which Crystal summarized from Deuteronomy 26:1 – 29:8, was very similar to Re’eh or See, from Deuteronomy 11:26 – 16:17. We reiterated the importance of giving our first fruits (tithe), so that we can receive blessings. In the main message, Rabbi Jonathan stressed that since only God is un-changing (Malachi 3:6), we must be prepared for dealing with change in our lives, especially negative changes. So leveraging the salvation model, we understood that the first step in all changes is to (1) BELIEVE we have options and deserve a better way, as the jailer did in Acts 16:29-31. Next, we (2) CONFESS or mentally step back and realize the fullness of what we are leaving behind, as seen in I John 1:8-10. Finally, (3) ACT on the new life, physically and literally, as seen in Ephesians 4:22-24. Enjoy the audio recording, and have a great week!
06 September 2014. “Warfare and Stress” – JLD. Rabbi Jonathan presented on Ki Teitzei, When You Go Out, from Deuteronomy 21:10 – 25:19. The deeper meaning we explored was the implications of Spiritual Warfare and we leveraged Deuteronomy 20:10-14 from Parshat Shoftim, to understand the concepts further. God commands us to offer peace, encourage surrender through siege and protect the innocent… so be mindful of our adversary, who does the exact opposite. Then in the main message, Rabbi Jonathan explained that to overcome stress, we must (1) previously research the scriptures or situation (Mathew 4:1-4), (2) project a calm level of confidence (I Samuel 17:4-47), (3) persist when the season warrants (Hosea 2:5-9) and (4) know when the season dictates letting go (Genesis 19:15-17). The audio recording is online, and we are looking forward to seeing you next Shabbat… and talking more about our chickens!
30 August 2014. “Forgive, Dwell, Avenge” – JLD. Andronicus presented on Shoftim or Judges, from Deuteronomy 16:18 – 21:9. Although this section was primarily about judgments, the deeper meaning is about learning to forgive. We cross referenced II Samuel 12:1-7, Mathew 9:10 and John 8:1-6; the last of which detailed how our Messiah showed us the value of forgiving. Next, Pastor David prepared us for Sukkot, from Leviticus 23:33-44. Women and foreigners are not required to keep Sukkot but we definitely encourage it… as it will be loads of fun. After all; who would not want to leave the stress of the life for the peace of a sukkah, smells of the lulav-etrog and joy of rejoicing with like minded believers!? Then lastly, Rabbi Jonathan concluded our services with a few words about current events and seeking vengeance. The audio recording is online, Service Team Chet is up next Shabbat and enjoy your week!
23 August 2014. “Blessings and Holy Days” – JLD. Messiah Echad’s Rebbetzin or First Lady, Melinda Dade, presented to our children Re’eh (See), from Deuteronomy 11:26 – 16:17. This was about receiving blessings or curses, from if we follow the commandments or not. And Numbers 18 was cross-referenced; to better understand the tithe from Deuteronomy 14. Then in the main teaching, Rabbi Jonathan prepared us for Rosh Hashanah or the Feast of Trumpets, by reading Leviticus 23:23-25. We discussed the Tashlikh Service derived from Micah 7:19, where we symbolically cast off our sins, although we know it is Messiah, who ultimately cleansed us from our sins. Lastly, Minister Faith prepare the children for Yom Kippur or the Day of Atonement, by covering Leviticus 23:26-32. The audio recording is online and make sure to watch our V’ahavta Video, join the Messiah Echad Mailing List and see us next week for monthly oneg!
16 August 2014. “Listening and Repenting” – JLD. Pastor David shared on Eikev or As A Result, from Deuteronomy 7:12 – 11:25. We learned that listening to the Lord and following his words, is a direct responsibility of every believer. James 2:10, Mathew 5:17, John 14:15, Romans 10:17, Hebrew 11:6 and Romans 12:3, were cross referenced to show a loving keeping of our beliefs, while not being “under” them. Then Rabbi Jonathan concluded our series on Job; a man who lost everything and has miserable comforters. In the final section, (1) Yahweh (God) reminded Job of man’s place (Job 38:19-21). Next (2) Yahweh described how Leviathan or Satan can wreak havoc on our lives but is also under The Creator. With that, Job repented (Job 42:6) and forgave his wrongdoers (Job 42:10-16), enabling his later years to be blessed twice over. The audio recording is and the prior teachings are on the blog. See you next week, for High Holy Day prep.
09 August 2014. “Culture and Comforters” – JLD. Rabbi Jonathan summarized Va’etchanan “And I Pleaded”, from Deuteronomy 3:23 – 7:11. Here, Moses pleaded to enter the Promised Land and we were told to maintain purity of the scriptures, to include the Ten Commandments. The foundation is to love God, avoid idols, not profane the Lord’s name, keep the Shabbat, honor our parents, not murder, not commit adultery, not steal, not lie and not covet… but more important, is making scripture part of ur culture (life), as we are led in the V’ahavta (Deuteronomy 6:5-9). Then in the main message, Pastor David covered the middle section of Job (Job 4-38), where we met Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar, who came to support Job but soon became known as miserable comforters. In the end, a fourth person, Elihu was the only true friend. The audio recording is online and we are so glad to have Minister Meicha, leading an intercession team!
02 August 2014. “Winning, Words and Job” – JLD. Congratulations to Angie who won the play system donated from Glicks Woodworking; it sure is rewarding to be part of Messiah Echad! And so is presenting the parsha, which Alfredo did from Devarim or Words, Deuteronomy 1:1 – 3:22. This was where Moses taught to a generation who did not witness The Lord firsthand. We cross-referenced Deut 11:18-19, Deut 32:1-3, Genesis 1:1, John 1:1 and John 1:14, where the scriptures show life and personality. Then in the main message, Rabbi Jonathan began our three part series on Job. And because we also fear God and shun evil, Satan would love to enter through our fears, to wreak havoc on our lives as well. Although God did not maliciously or directly cause this harm (I John 1:5), be mindful of the windows we allow the enemy to enter our lives and after hearing our message online, look towards what God has in store for us after the trials.
26 July 2014. “Salvation and Love” – JLD. Andronicus presented Masei “Journeys Of”, from Numbers 33:1 – 36:13. We explored biblical numbers; one being the tithe, three being divine completion, five being grace, six being earthly, eight being new beginning, ten being divine order and forty being trial periods. These numbers and the cross referenced section (Exodus 14:4), equal a great responsibility for those who call themselves saved. Then Rabbi Jonathan covered Love or Ahavah, and showed how true love comes from God (I John 4:7-11). Additionally, love is a choice (Deuteronomy 30:19-20), so we must allow those we love, to have freedom of decision, without recourse. Finally, loving believers should strive to naturally follow certain behaviors (John 14:15). The audio recording is online and the open parsha teaching dates are actually 06 and 13 September. Contact Rabbi Jonathan or Pastor David, if you are interested.
19 July 2014. “Vows and Eating Kosher” – JLD. It was exciting to hear Alfredo teach Matot or Tribes, from Numbers 30:2 – 32:42. The idea was to keep our vows, obey our leaders and keep our spirits positive. Some cross-referenced sections were Ecclesiastes 5:4-6, Mathew 5:37 and Proverbs 15:13-15. And Rabbi Jonathan covered how kosher is; cloven hooves and cud chewing for land animals, fins and scales for marine animals, non scavengers or carnivores for birds, locusts or grasshoppers or crickets for insects, and no reptiles, rodents, blood, fat nor amphibians (Leviticus 7, Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14). Yes, Peter had a vision about common animals being clean but that is only when Yahweh (God) wills it so… the kosher diet was not abolished in Acts 10-9-16. The audio recording is online and see you next week for the monthly oneg… make sure to bring a (biblically) kosher dish to share!
12 July 2014. “Phinehas and Separation” – JLD. In addition to starting an interim period of being an Elder and Associate Pastor at Messiah Echad, David Hunt summarized Numbers 25:10 – 30:1. Phinehas had decided to stand against the evil in the camps and he physically took matters into his own hands. And although we do not use javelins to remove evil in the present day, spiritually speaking, even us non-leaders should seek to confront evil. Then in the main teaching, Rabbi Jonathan spoke on Finding Common Ground and we explored Mishpachah or Family. Many of us can relate to the pain Saul felt when he was rejected by fellow believers in Acts 9:26-27. The solution is to focus on similarities (Romans 8:1-6), forget about differences (Romans 12:3-8) and worry about our own responsibilities to Yahweh (II Corinthians 5:16-20). The audio recording is online. Finally, the High Holy Days Schedule has been posted so please visit our Facebook or the Messiah Echad Events Page.
05 July 2014. “Big Idea and Finances” – JLD. Andronicus presented on Balak or Destroyer, from Numbers 22:2 – 25:9. He explained how God was the big idea that Balaam was missing and in humility (Romans 12:3), Balaam should seen God as more than just an idea (Ephesians 3:20). We looked at the directions of sin (up, outward, inward) and Andronicus helped us understand how although Balaam was instructed to curse God’s people, instead the MaTovu blessing was uttered (Numbers 24:5). In the main teaching, our special guest David concluded our Giving to God Series, by speaking on tithing and making it personal. He referenced Proverbs 3:9 in honoring the Lord with your first fruits, II Corinthians 9:7 in being a cheerful giver, Ecclesiastes 6: for being content with what we have and Proverbs 27:23 in caring for our flocks. The audio recording is online and don’t forget Pie Date Night on 12 July 2014 at 06:30pm.
28 June 2014. “Ordinances and Inabilities” – JLD. Rabbi Jonathan began by encouraging our women to sign up for a future parsha, where they will teach the children but with the congregation as an audience. And this is precisely what Rabbi Jonathan did with Chukat or Ordinance Of, from Numbers 19:1 – 22:1. The children learned about the red heifer used for purification, Moses striking a rock to spring forth water, deadly snake bites brought on from excessive complaining and the Land of Beer, where there was a special well. Then in the main sermon and with our special guest having to re-schedule his teaching till next week, Rabbi Jonathan presented on Giving When We Cant. We explored the two church concept (Matthew 6:24), not diminishing our prior obligations (Exodus 21:10), giving so that our own fruit may abound (Philippians 4:16-20) and giving with a cheerful heart (II Corinthians 9:6-7). Enjoy both recordings here.
21 June 2014. “Revolts and Loving” – JLD. Alfredo taught on Korah or “Bald”, from Numbers 16:1 – 18:32. He encouraged us to be mindful of the Korah inside of us, which is disobedient to the leaders appointed by God, and we should not allow this to separate us from torah. We should focus our obedience to the Moses within us; the part that follows after the scriptures and does not wish to perish. Then in the main teaching, Rabbi Jonathan continued on the Giving To God Series, by covering how to tithe or give our hearts to God. We looked at Yahweh (God) being all light (I John 1:5-7), yet He is still hard to love, due to the fact that His strength has byproducts (Proverbs 14:4), God allows our carelessness to be met with punishment (Numbers 16:44) and faith in Him, leads to increasing responsibility (Matthew 25:23). The audio recording is online and make sure to bring a biblically kosher dish next week for the monthly oneg… and Service Team Chet will be on duty.
14 June 2014. “Check Yourself and Tithes” – JLD. David brought forth a strong message on Shlach “Send For Yourself” from Numbers 13:1 – 15:41. We focused on the verses where Moses sent spies into the land they were promised, but their lack of confidence, prevented them from embracing what God had promised. So check yourselves and your life, then be confident about going to where He sent you and receiving what He gives you. Then in the main sermon, Rabbi Jonathan began the Series on Giving To God, covering the tithe of our mind. We looked at Isaiah 26:3-4 to stay our minds on God, 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 to bring our thoughts into subjection and Ephesians 1:15-18 to train our minds towards embracing enlightenment. The audio recording is online and be sure to check back next week, as we look at giving our heart, love and grace to God. And finally, Happy Fathers Day to all of you paternal believers out there; we love you and appreciate the characteristics of God you show.
07 June 2014. “Menorah and Messiah” – JLD. Toda Raba (Thank You) Woody, for spending the past five weeks with us. Your parsha today, from Numbers 8:1 – 12:16, was amazing. Like the building of the menorah, it is all about lovingly keeping the commandments, so the light (of Messiah) can shine. Safe travels and your slides have been uploaded! In the main sermon, Rabbi Jonathan completed our membership series on The Son Of God. We started by discerning the Trinity (Tri-Unity), then introduced Messiah as the Mediator between God and man (I Tim 2:5). Messiah preached amongst the sinners of his day and would have likely done so in ours, helping people out of sexuality immorality (John 8:3-5), idol worship (I John 5:20-21) and drugs abuse (Math 11:19). The audio recording is online, date night was a great social time and Messiah Echad now has a Babysitter – Nursery Coordinator, to help in the services and for our next date night.
05 June 2014. “Counting 50 Days” – JLD. Leviticus 23:15 and Deuteronomy 16:9 instruct us to count 50 days from when God freed his people from bondage. Some start their count after the Sabbath following Passover. However in efforts to align with the Jewish people where practical, distance ourselves from biblical holidays that are infused with un-biblical elements (i.e. Easter) and recognize the Sabbath of Pesach, we count the omer from the harvest day after Passover Night. Known as Shavuot or Feast of Weeks, this is when God gave the torah, and this day is also known as Pentecost, when the holy spirit was given to the disciples. So on this day, Messiah Echad reads the torah, study Ruth harvesting the fields of Boaz, enjoy a festive meal and discuss the nine gifts of the spirit. The Shavuot Video and big announcement Rabbi Jonathan made will be released soon, so check back often and or join the mailing list!
31 May 2014. “Elevate and Membership” JLD. – Alfredo covered Naso or Elevate, from Numbers 4:21 – 7:89, which is similar to the Hebrew Word Nasa or Take, (i.e. taking a census). And in addition to the parsha, Alfredo prophesied that as we elevate our spirits to the presence of God, The Lord in turn elevates his countenance upon us. Wow; this sure does take the Aaronic Benediction (Numbers 6:22-27), to a higher level! Then in the main sermon, Rabbi Jonathan covered our statement of faith on membership. Messiah Echad has a mission and vision around loving God (Deuteronomy 6:5), loving our Neighbor (Mathew 22:39) and loving our Messiah (John 14:15). Its all about love and when we lovingly fellowship together (Psalms 133:1-3), something very beautiful and effective is made. Be sure to catch the audio recording, purchase MP3 Players with past teaching series and see us on Wednesday (04 June 2014) for the Shavuot at the Dade House.
24 May 2014 . “Census and Our God” – JLD. From River in The Hills Church, Pastor Glenn Hubbart presented Bamidbar “In The Wilderness” from Numbers 1:1 – 4:20. Practically speaking, the census was for tabernacle fundraising, sizing the army and organizing the tribes. And spiritually, order is still important, as is worship and our individual contributions. Then in the main teaching, Rabbi Jonathan spoke on the God of Isaac, Abraham and Jacob. We learned God has a name (Joel 2:32) and His name has power (Jeremiah 10:6). We explored how God is the All Mighty El Shaddai (Exodus 6:2-3), Father of Light Avi Hame’orot (James 1:17) and Sovereign One Ham’vorak (I Timothy 6:11-15). Make sure to share the audio recording and look forward to next week’s monthly oneg. Lastly and over the next two weeks, Messiah Echad will begin releasing MP3 players loaded with selected teachings and a new members course… more info to come soon!
17 May 2014. “Statutues and Interpretion” – JLD. From our series on the nine gifts, we definitely have been witnessing some amazing things! It began with a spirit filled praise and worship session, followed by David teaching on Bechukotai “In My Statutes”, from Leviticus 26:3 – 27:34. This section was especially relevant for David, since he was previously ordained in another walk but has long since found a calling in our faith, and truly understands the grace-obedience balance. Then in the main sermon, Pastor Jonathan covered Interpretation of Tongues and connected it to edifying the church and witnessing (I Corinthians 14:5-27, II Corinthians 5:18-20, I Corinthians 12:7-10, Mark 2:15-17). The audio recording is online and lastly, the evening of Sunday 18 May 2014 will mark 34 of 50 days, counting the omer…, which ends on Shavuot or Pentecost (04 June 2014). Looking forward to the campfire and cookout at the Dade House.
10 May 2014. “Sabbath Year and Tongues” – JLD. Woody Woodworth, spoke on Behar or On The Mount, from Leviticus 25:1 – 26:2. This was about Sabbath for the Land and the Jubilee Year. And for those who are curious, aside from the audio recording, the slides are posted here and the referenced website is http://www.shemitta.com. Then in the main teaching, Rabbi Jonathan covered speaking in tongues and concluded by helping lead our very own Jacob, into speaking in tongues for first time! As we geared up for the spirit, we read Acts 2:1-13, Leviticus 23:15-17, John 14:23-26, John 15:26-27, John 20:21-22 and I Corinthians 14:2-5. Make sure to listen to this amazing recording and share it with your friends, so they too can speak with tongues, as the spirit gives them utterance. Lastly, the surprise party for Rabbi Jonathan at his home after the service, for completing his Masters Degree, was amazing. Thank you!!
03 May 2014. “Feasts and Prophecy” – JLD. Emor or Say from Leviticus 21:1 – 24:23, was about being holy as priests, making holy offerings and observing holy feasts. And specifically, those feasts are The Sabbath, Passover and Unleavened Bread, First Fruits, Weeks, Trumpets, Day of Atonement and Tabernacles… of which sunset today (04 May 2014) starts Day 10 of 50. Make sure to read Leviticus 23:15-22 and do the commandments we can, like counting days and waving grains. In the main teaching, Rabbi Jonathan covered Prophecy (I Corinthians 14:1-5 and 14:22-23). Joel 2:1-29 showed us how to receive prophecy (watch for events, prepare our body, receive the sprit), Jeremiah 14:13-16 showed the importance of confirming prophecies and I Kings 22:3-38 showed us how to keep prophecies orderly (be nodded or invited up, keep it brief and consider it in prayer). The audio recording is online and don’t forget to count that omer! Oh, and date night was AWESOME!
26 April 2014. “Passover Recap and Miracles” – JLD. Since we read Kedoshim during Passover Week, when we were supposed to skip the torah portion, we used the torah time this week to reflect on one law being for the stranger and native born in the land (Exodus 12:47-51). And where the stranger in the old testament was required to be physically circumcised, we brought in Romans 2:25-29 and John 17:20-22, to show us circumcision of the heart is what really matters, along with being one (Echad) with our brothers. Then in the main sermon, Rabbi Jonathan covered miracles. We started in Matthew 14:15-21 to learn, (1) forget about the details, because God is above the details. Next, we read Matthew 14:22-33 to learn, (2) forget about your fears. Finally, we explored Mark 11:20-24 to learn, (3) verbalize the miracle. The audio recording is online, make sure to mark your calendars for Date Night next week and if you are not on the mailing list, please sign up!
19 April 2014. “Holyness and Last Supper” – JLD. The torah portion, Kedoshim or Holy Ones, from Leviticus 19:1 – 20:27, mirrored the Passover celebration and how God saved his people apart, as holy. The section was about being just, keeping things pure, respecting others, tithing, and acting against evil. Then in the main teaching, Mathew 26:17-20 and Mathew 12:40 showed us the three days, with Messiah dying as the Passover Lamb on Wednesday at sunset, then rising before Mary could visit the tombs after sunset on Shabbat (Saturday). I Peter 2:21-25 helps us understand why Messiah died… to restore our righteousness. John 1:29-36 connected the final days with the Passover Meal (Messiah’s Last Supper) and Luke 23:34-43 shows us that even when people are wrong, we should show them forgiveness and love. And despite trouble with the AV Equipment, to include static in the lines, the recording is online and everything has been fixed for next week!
12 April 2014. “Passover And Beyond” – JLD. What a powerful Shabbat, and in under two hours! We began with a reminder to register for Tuesday’s Passover Seder (http://messiahechad.org/events/#pesach). Then we went on to some life events; like The Stone’s Baby (07 April), Grant’s Birthday (13 April), Melinda’s birthday (16 April) and The Dade’s Anniversary (17 April). As for the main service Pastor Brian covered Metzora or Infected One, in Leviticus 14:12 – 15:33, a reverse order read from last week’s parsha. Rabbi Jonathan showed us three themes for Passover… the lamb (Genesis 3:21, Isaiah 53:6, John 1:29), the leaven (Colossians 2:18-19, I Corinthians 4:6-8) and the stranger (II Thessalonians 3:6, I Timothy 1:15-16, Exodus 12:48). We also explored Exodus 12 and then bridged the symbolism of the lamb to Yeshua and how we should pray for the day Israel says Baruch Haba B’shem Adonai, proclaiming Him as their Messiah and Living Passover Lamb. Make sure to listen to, share and re-listen to, this amazing audio recording.
05 April 2014. “E-Newsletter and Recycling” – JLD. Having over a dozen new faces in services today was exciting and it coincided perfectly with the start of the new email subscription at Messiah Echad. So even if you are already connected to our social media pages or website blog, make sure to visit the Contact Page and join our mailing list! Especially for the Passover Seders, you do not want to miss any communication… we are hosting our Seder at Messiah Echad on 15 April 2014 and we are doing a Seder Demonstration at a Church in Lakeway, on 18 April. Please RSVP by emailing the Messiah Echad Office and let us know what dish you want to bring or your plans for donation. Lastly and if you missed Rabbi Jonathan sharing on care for the earth and general stewardship (Matthew 25:14-30, I Corinthians 6:15-20 and Deuteronomy 25:4, Leviticus 18:28 and Numbers 35:33), be sure to check out the audio recording.
29 March 2014. “Impurities and Healing” – JLD. In Leviticus 12:12 – 13:59, Pastor Brian covered Tazaria “She Bears Seed”; the section which discussed blood impurities (i.e. menstruation) and skin impurities (i.e. leprosy). Sometimes physical impurities have spiritual implications, so it is important to keep our sprit pure. Then in the main sermon, Rabbi Jonathan picked up on the Nine Gifts of The Spirit with Healing. The first key to healing is to plan on praising Yahweh (God) and only expect healing when you intend to give Yahweh the praise, like the man did in Acts 3:8. Next we looked at the determination or faith needed for healing, which the woman did in Matthew 9:21. Lastly, we looked at when healings may or may not be part of Gods plan, as seen in Acts 9. The audio recording is online and we are glad Rabbi Jonathan made it back safely from his Ride 2 Recovery Texas Challenge, and did not pass out!
22 March 2014. “Ordinations and Faith” – JLD. Getting back into the groove after Purim, Pastor Brian went over Shemini “Eighth”, from Leviticus 9:12 – 11:47. This parsha was about the eight day, where Moses called Aaron, his sons and the elders to make an offering. And there was also a profane offering from Nadab and Abihu, which led to their demise, so instructions were given on how to remain holy. Then in the main teaching, Rabbi Jonathan continued on the nine gifts, by researching faith. We read about having faith like a mustard seed in Luke 17:6, where even the smallest of seeds can produce the largest of trees. From there, we explored how faith is the underlining theme behind the tithe (Malachi 3:10) and we concluded in I Corinthians 3:10, with the three parts of faith; doing something, leveraging a buddy and letting Yahweh (God) do his part. The audio recording is online and so is the Purim Video!
15 March 2014. “Haman vs. Mordecai” – JLD. The extended version of our promotional video was released (contact us for the link), the Mecholah Dance Team (led by Faith Dunn) ministered to us via dance and theatre, we jammed out to The Maccabeats, and the entire congregation participated as Rabbi Jonathan (dressed as Haman) narrated the Story of Esther. And we still had Pastor Brian summarize the parsha, Tzav “Command”, from Leviticus 6:1–8:36, but with today being Purim, it was all those tasty hamentashen Audrey made, the festivities the children enjoyed and the celebration of Esther saving the Jews. If you missed services this week, you missed out, and unfortunately there was no audio recording… because everything was filmed in high definition! 🙂 We will release the link for the video soon, so please be patient. And in the meantime, feel free to re-read the Story of Esther, enjoy the candy we shared and prepare for next week, where will continue on with the nine gifts of the spirit.
08 March 2014. “Sacrifices and Discernment” – JLD. Pastor Brian covered Vayikra “And He Called”, from Leviticus 1:1 – 5:26. We discussed how the burnt offerings make a sweet aroma to the Lord and we explored the significance of the different sacrifices. Then in the main teaching, Rabbi Jonathan covered Discerning of Spirits. We began in Ephesians 6:12, to understand spiritual warfare, then we went to I John 1:5-6, to distinguish between voices of God and those of the enemy. Next, Luke 10:19 showed us the abilities we have while discerning spirits and finally, we saw all of this in action when our Messiah dispelled the legion spirits (Mark 5:1-13). The audio recording is online and if you have not done so already, check out the Messiah Echad Video. And don’t forget next week is Purim… everyone is invited to join us, wear a biblically inspired or family friendly garments, and bring a biblically kosher dish. We will be in the side room for Purim and we look forward to seeing you.
01 March 2014. “Video and Special Guest” – JLD. Ted Pearce led an amazing worship and during his songs, even some of our men stepped out in dance. Praise Yahweh (God), for when our men join us in the ministry of dance! As for the parsha, Rabbi Jonathan summarized “Accountings Of”, from Exodus 38:21 – 40:38, where precious metals were inventoried and used for sockets, hooks and priestly garments. Then in the main teaching, we continued on our series of the Nine Gift by looking at Words of Wisdom. We explored the Wisdom of Solomon (I Kings 3:16-28) and we also studied wisdom in Proverbs 4:6-7. Remember that knowledge is strategy or making decisions from what we know, whereas wisdom is making decisions from things we do not know. The audio recording is online and so is our new video (http://youtu.be/iNpbQ4w5wUU). Feel free to let the video be a Words of Wisdom, helping you in the Ministry of Reconciliation and building Yahweh’s Kingdom.
22 February 2014. “Willingness and Knowledge” – JLD. Pastor Brian covered Vayakhel “And He Assembled”, from Exodus 35:1 – 38:20. We explored how Yahweh (God) draws us to the things in which we are gifted. We also realized that our gifts come from God and that we should not give the bare minimum back to Him. Then in the main teaching, Rabbi Jonathan kicked off the series on the Gifts of The Spirit, by covering words of knowledge. We defined knowledge as strategy, where having facts is great but connecting them into a wining plan or strategy, requires the Spirit. David walked by this gift of the spirit when he took down Goliath (I Samuel 17) and Paul also leveraged words of knowledge, when he was on a sinking ship (Acts 27). The audio recording is on the member page and we look forward to seeing you all next week, as Ted Pearce will be leading our praise and worship! And although it will not be a full oneg week, feel free to bring finger foods or a snack to share. Shalom.
15 February 2014. “Pure Oils and Nine Gifts” – MLD. Worship Time was especially powerful this week, since everyone worshiped in their own unique ways and the dance ministry just continues to grow. In the parha, Pastor Brian walked us through “When You Elevate” (Exodus 30:11-34:35). We were reminded to give God what is rightfully His, using our gifts for His kingdom, not our own. We want to be “His only” and as we seek Him, we will become holy as we are shaped and molded. The later, Rabbi Jonathan gave us a solid foundation on the manifestations of the ruach hakodesh (holy spirit), which we get for becoming a new creation (II Cor. 5:17-21/I Cor. 12:7-11). Our (new) mission is to build a family for Yahweh (God), on Earth. Although we have an enemy who attempts foils our plans, we have been given gifts that enable our community to succeed. So be a spiritual superhero, listen to the audio recording and enjoy your week.
08 February 2014. “Holyness and Oneness” – JLD. This week, Pastor Brian covered Tetzaveh “You Shall Command”, from Exodus 27:20 – 30:10. We discussed the physical and spiritual elements of the priestly garments and anointing oils. And when understood with the whole Armor of Yahweh (God) later seen in Ephesians 6, this concept becomes even more relevant. Then Rabbi Jonathan concluded our series on Unity, by preaching on how to be unified with Yahweh and have a mind like Messiah. John 10:30 was the opening verse, showing how the Son and the Father are Echad (one)… and as believers, we should also want to be one with our heavenly father. We learned that to be one with Him, some good places to start are following the commandments (John 14:15), giving to others (John 21:17) and loving each other (John 13:35). The audio recording is on the member page but feel free to share the link with your friends. See you all next week.
01 February 2014. “Interdenominational Unity” – JLD. Rabbi Jonathan took the parsha, Terumah (Offering), from Exodus 25:1-27:19. The section talked about the mercy seat, showbread table, lamp stand, tabernacles and veil. Several of the verses were technical in nature but we did hone in on the communal implications of building the tabernacle and we pondered how the veil is cross referenced in Mark 15:38. Then later, Pastor Brian took us to John 17:20-26 to justify the need to have oneness with our fellow believers. We need to know our brothers and we also need to love them, as Messiah would. Granted, loving people who think differently is not easy, but while we speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4), we need to figure it out. Lastly, Pastor Brian took us to James 3:15-17 to discuss being willing to yield and full of mercy. The audio recording is on the member page and we can also email it to you. Shalom.
25 January 2014. “Legalism and Unbelievers” – JLD. With Pastor Brian out of town this week, Rabbi Jonathan spoke on the parsha Mishpatim (Laws), from Exodus 21:1 – 24:18. This section is where the heart of legalism starts to unfold and although being stuck in the law can be problematic, the essence of following biblical rules, has a lot of value. The main teaching continued in the series on Unity, specifically delving into Unity With Unbelievers. We explored the section in John 8:2-12 where Yeshua (Jesus) was faced with people who lived that legalism in Exodus. And in John 8, they brought a woman caught in adultery to Yeshua for judgment. Letting her go free would have meant Messiah abolished the law (what many Christians believe) but stoning her would have undermined the concept of grace, in support or legalism (supporting Jewish thought). The audio recording tells us what happened and we look forward to seeing you next Shabbat (Saturday) at 03pm.
18 January 2014. “Jewish and Christian Unity” – MLD. In the Torah Portion, “Jethro”, Pastor Brian showed us how God works through people in our lives, similar to how Moses received Godly counsel from his father-in-law, Jethro. It is important for us to test what one says, with how it aligns to God’s Word before heeding the counsel. For our main sharing, Rabbi Jonathan covered practical keys to foster unity within our congregation. As we have and will continue to have a diverse group of people in our community, it is important that we commune with each other, on the Love of God, in unity. We can accomplish this by focusing on our own relationship with God and what God had convicted us to incorporate into our lives (Matthew 7:3-5). This will allow our fruit to be an example to others, rather than judging and “forcing” people to see things our way (Matthew 7:16-20). As a concrete example of how Messiah Echad plans to balance the cultural differences between Jewish and Christian traditions, we took a look at the first discussion of these issues, recorded in Acts 15. The audio recording is on the member page and enjoy your week!
11 January 2014. “Godly Fathers and Husbands” – MLD. Pastor Brian drew us into the Torah Portion Beshalach (When He Let Go), by sharing the records in Exodus 13-14, which reveal God’s faithfulness to His people. These records show us how God deals with us where we are, and only gives us what we can handle at that time. God knows we are flesh and anticipates our human nature, while faithfully coaching us to bring our thinking to higher levels. Rabbi Jonathan brought our section on Unity in the Family to a completion by focusing on the role of the Husband. Men learned that asking for wives to submit is not meant to come without a sacrifice motivated out of love for his wife (Ephesians 5:25, John 3:16). Men are further instructed to sanctify their wives with the Word of God and should study it daily (Ephesians 5:26, Psalms 5:3). Lastly and before a man can decide to (spiritually) cleanse his household, he will need to focus on cleansing his heart and actions before God (Ephesians 5:27, Leviticus 21:21-23). You can find the audio recording on the member page, or by emailing the Messiah Echad Office.
04 January 2014. “Roles Of Wives and Mothers” – MLD. Pastor Brian reviewed the Torah portion, “Enter!” (Bo), which covers the remainder of the plagues on the Egyptians. We looked at how God proved himself more powerful than any god the Egyptians had dreamed up. And the final plague was no longer God proving himself more powerful, but an opportunity for Pharaoh to submit to God. This concept is applicable in each one of our lives as we choose to submit or not submit to God. When we submit to God, we are protected from God’s wrath by the blood of the lamb, Yeshua. The Torah portion was followed by Rabbi Jonathan sharing on the role of the wife to bring unity in the family. We learned that the wife is to be in subjection to her husband, by letting him be the leader and final say on family decisions (I Peter 3:1). We also discussed that when God works thought the woman, she should bring these thoughts to her husband for his consideration, but not nag (Matthew 27:19-21). Lastly we covered how wives and mothers may tend to be more attached emotionally to other family member’s decisions in life, and that they should not feel guilty for other’s free will choices (Deuteronomy 24:16).
